S1C6: The Fire on the Horizon
Greetings from the Sea of Many
The pipes and infrastructure have been put in place to quench Dionea’s thirst.
The Lady of Vines’ condition has improved tremendously; her aching cries of pain have subsided for now.
In addition to this, we have made a ginormous amount of progress in Rivers End, taking nearly half the territory and holding the exterior secondary plant as well as two of the water towers. This is just enough for us to start pumping the seeds of Dionea into the water supply of some of the territories.
While this is great news and a complete rebound from the state we were in before, this comes with some unsatisfactory news.
The Underworld Collective took the opportunity to slip through our offensive lines and completely capture the Reeds. While this is a small loss, they are likely to use this to push troops back up our lines and cut them off from any resupply.
In addition to this, the Governed decided to level Overwatch with a mountain of explosives. The tower collapsed into a massive crater, thankfully not hitting deep enough to disrupt our pipes. The Crates is now completely cut off from our supplies, and we are completely blind without our surveillance systems. This will have to be rectified soon to allow us to run troops between the Roots and the Crates.
From here, we have only three territories that we can reliably target. Choosing one would lead to the other two being attacked by others before we can strike.
Overwatch is now a smoking pile of rubble and wires, but if we could at least establish a corridor between the Crates and the Roots, we would be much less vulnerable. This will also stop the Governed from launching a double-pronged attack on our last two territories. This would mean leaving Rivers End and the Reeds to their own devices.
The Reeds would be a low-value target, but it would stop the Underworld Collective from launching an offensive attack from behind our lines. Having this territory would stop the Underworld Collective from launching their counterattack, but this would be assuming that Rivers End can hold its own while we attack the Reeds.
Rivers End is a beast of a target to try and take down, but the benefits are well worth it. The additional water production and planting the seeds of Dionea in the water supply could turn the tide of the war in our favour. Keep in mind, though, that this would still allow the Underworld Collective to attack from the Reeds, which will increase the difficulty of securing the facility.
May the Lady of Vines guide your hand to make the right decision.
